Black tulip

The design concept for my PlatAfrica entry was to create a narrative jewellery piece, which I would then translate into a poem. This concept was adapted from my B. Tech theme entitled Intsomi ka makoti.

My imagined client is a 38-year-old man, who would like to surprise his wife with an item of jewellery, for their 11
th wedding anniversary. I have therefore felt that the black tulip flower would be the ideal symbol for their marital milestone as it captures a journey of commitment. As the black tulip was a result of more than 10 years of cross-pollinating various shades of tulips, it is a sign of its creator’s commitment, perseverance and love for what could be.

As each Series is different, I have decided to discuss this series under the following headings:
a. The design
b. The creation and development
c. The final platinum product.
