We had the pleasure of meeting and discussing our B.Tech with John, who came to moderate at DUT. He basically come to somewhat hear what we having been doing during the course of the year and give us some feedback from an external academic view. One of the thing which he pointed out to me based on my presentation; was that as much as I was trying not to contain myself in a box, I was in a way placing myself in one, yet at the same time wanting to force a lot of ideas into this very box. He had stated that I was a poet, yet I was not using that as a means to revolve my work around, instead of being engrossed solely by marriage/wedding narrative and other people's point of views. I could instead use my own poetry as a medium to draw my inspiration from , finding resonance and thus will be able to express the same idea in both poetry and jewellery. Therefore I would then find "Poetry in jewellery and jewellery in poetry".
Now this hit several lights in my head and found that this could be something I would like to further explore in my work, In terms of how can I find a way to express and capture a single idea/ statement or issue into two forms of art? How can I make jewellery and poetry speak the same language and thus express my views to the viewer in both spoken word and visual language? How can i make jewellery live in poetry? I could also see how I can breakdown the various elements of poetry, from voice, sound, words and expression itself and to somehow see if I can use that in developing contemporary narrative pieces. This would be a development from what I have started to do with my last creative session of design thought using the Disney and roller-coaster in order to design pieces based on spoken word written and performed by Jefferson Bethke.
