Sickness got in the way of what had started off as a directed week. Nonetheless with my strength being renewed I have decided to keep start off with some house keeping. As I was going through my picture album I came across some sewing experiments I had made over my break last year. Thought would be nice to add a picture or two as they capture my growth and would love to somehow include my sewing skills later on as part of my B.Tech even if it's through sewing a bag. Which is actually one of the ideas I had where I would somehow include a purse per poetic collection of work, it was all inspired by this video I came across it last year. (will post soon)
Sticking to the theme I will only upload two pictures from the stuff I was experimenting with. The first is of a shweshwe jacket I was busy with, but have not completed as yet. What I love about it was the contemporary look to the shweshwe.
As I was trying to create my own collection of culturally relevant wife attire, I was left with so much shweshwe, including some fabric from my previous shweshwe jewellery experiment I had started and posted about in December 2016 before I had my current thesis direction narrowed down. So I decided to try a different experiment.

This second picture I have uploaded below is an outfit I was busy making for a traditional per-wedding ceremony, for my sister-in-law's amabhaso (bridal shower). As per the Xhosa culture, when there is any traditional ceremony, all the makoti's in the family are required to dress in traditional looking clothing, unless stated otherwise. This will also include having to wear a turban (iqiya), and an apron, as these are a sign of respect and also symbolize your role in the family to everyone that attends the function.
The colours I have chosen for the picture above, may not go well with the brown, but the idea was just to see how I could still use the shweshwe fabric in itself, while giving the pattern on the fabric a more 3D and texture feel to it. I still have to grow the idea and make it into an actual piece. The idea was to play around with technique at the moment. The design development will follow.
